Seeing hundreds of zombies walk down the streets may be an everyday activity in your hometown, but when it happens in Orlando, FL that means the Spooky Empire Zombie Walk is in full effect.
Now a Spooky Empire tradition, the Zombie Walk is the official Friday event that kicks off the weekend long convention. Sponsored by the Deadite Empire, Florida’s premiere zombie social club, the Zombie Walk is an event open to all. Guests are welcome to march alongside zombies. Make-up artists like the world famous Wolfe Brothers are on hand to apply paint, make-up, prosthetics, and plenty of blood so that all walkers look like proper corpses.
If you prefer to participate in a more passive way, stand on the sidelines and watch the zombies march down International Drive. This is a tremendous photo opportunity. Past years have seen hundreds upon hundreds of zombies in full make-up and costumes walking the street, and there have been several celebrity citings. Previous guests of honor have included everyone’s favorite zombie Bill Hinzman (Night of the Living Dead) and John Landis (director of Thriller and An American Werewolf in London), Tom Savini, and other stars of films such as Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead.
Zombies aren’t the only thing you’ll see in the Zombie Walk though. Several other groups are in attendance such as the Z.E.D (Zombie Emergency Defense), a group of heavily armed civilians there to protect the masses, and the anti-zombie protesters Double T.A.P. (True Americans Protecting The Alive Population).
The gathering before the walk begins at 1:00pm on Friday afternoon, and will be located at and hosted by Uno Chicago Grill (located across the street from the Wyndham on International Drive). There will be tons of activities, games, drink and food specials and much more. The walk will start at 4:00pm.
However you choose to participate, be sure you don’t miss it!
