Well some of the volunteers did a good job in making sure that the VIP convention passholders all got what they paid for.
However there were a lot of people who did not know where various guests were or the panel discussion room. Yes, they got free admisison for standing in the hallway and doing nothing. After I had asked 3 people where rooms were etc, they told me to go all the way down the hall near Starbucks. I walked back to this person and told her that the only thing she is doing is wearing a yellow shirt and called her useless. Some one needs to meet with these volunteers and show them where the guests and panels will be before the show starts!!!!!!!
Maybe some time I will volunteer for the show, but there will be one difference. I will know this information!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrr!!!!

I do think that's fair. If you're going to be a volunteer and get all the perks, the least one can do is try to learn as much as they can. No one wants to look stupid. I would think being a volunteer would be a proud thing to do, so in order to be proud of what you're representing, you want to look good.. and the only way to do that is by learning everything you can so you can go a good job.

Well Said....We're still thinking about doing it....But we're also gonna try and get VIP passes if we can afford it.

This is my first year attending Spooky Empire (a birthday present, actually), but I would have volunteered had it not meant paying the air fare and hotel stay to do so.
I've volunteered twice for Anime Expo ('09 and '10) as a regular staffer (8+ hour "shifts") and I had a blast with meeting everyone and helping people get to where they need to go. It actually is pretty fun. I would imagine that it's basically the same experience with SE, but with the panels and events revolving around horror rather than cute 4'5" anime girls who can jump ridiculously high and summon blue dragons with playing cards.
If I get the chance, I'd volunteer too! Good luck to those that volunteer this year!

If they paid airfare and hotel for volunteers, I think everyone would volunteer. That's like $500-$700. lol.

That's one cheap flight, considering the hotel itself is $300 for the 3 days of the convention.
